Community Outreach

We believe in building a strong, equitable, and diverse paddling community. That diversity should reflect the makeup of the Twin Cities and strive to include communities that have historically been effectively cut off from the river (through city planning, accessibility due to industry, and generational wealth gaps). In alignment with this mission, we are piloting two new opportunities for local community members to join the outdoor paddling space in 2023.

ACA Scholarship

In our commitment to grow the paddling community in Minnesota, we are offering one scholarship space in each of our American Canoe Association (ACA) Coastal Kayaking Level II courses. This is an opportunity for youth or young adults to level-up their paddling skills in a group course setting. Upon successful completion, participants will receive accreditation with the ACA, which can be a helpful qualification for entry into outdoor recreation professions. The ACA is recognized as the standard for paddling sports across the United States and beyond. Paddle Bridge anticipates offering at least three ACA trainings in 2023. The trainings are held over two days and involve both water and classroom time. Paddle Bridge will cover all cost for the participant including ACA membership dues for one year and will provide all necessary gear for the duration of the course.

Build-A-Bridge Tours

At Paddle Bridge, we work with different organizations throughout the year to help youth and adults discover safe and fun entry points to paddling. We recognize outdoor recreation can be inaccessible due to financial constraints. In our commitment to equity in the outdoor space, we are offering two free guided group tours with up to 14 participants in each with a focus on water safety and a building a base of paddling ability. This opportunity is meant for groups for whom price might otherwise constitute a barrier to accessing this program. Experience is not necessary and we provide all the equipment.

Do you belong to or know of a group that might benefit from this program? We need your help to nominate a group, organization, or team of folks to join us and bridge our communities to the river.
